Proclamation of 1763

 Summary of Proclamation of 1763

The French and Indian War changed the power in North America in favor of the British. The French were driven out because of British, Colonists, and Indians. The colonists and the British held deep resentment toward each other following the war, mostly from the poor relations between British and colonial troops. Indian tribes feared that the British would allow the colonists to invade their tribal lands, and because of that conducted attacks against the British in North America in attempt to save western settlements. Eventually, the British passed the Proclamation of 1763, limiting colonial expansion to appease the tribes, but this angered the colonists, who thought that Britain should stay out of North American affairs all together.(3)

Date Enacted

The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was issued October 7, 1763, by King George III following Great Britain's acquisition of French territory in North America after the end of the French and Indian War/Seven Years' War, which forbade all settlement past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains.(4)

  Purpose of the Policy

The reason for this policy was for the Indians to stop attacking british in North America. Helped also in Indian/ British relations and revealing British power over Colonials.(1)

Provisions

The Policy limited colonial expansion to appease the tribes, but this angered the colonists, who thought that Britain should stay out of North American affairs all together.(2)

 Colonies affected and Colonists reponse

Farmers were deeply affected by this policy because of the ever so increasing amount of land they could gain. And the more land the more money, causing farmers to lose money. This angered all colonists except maybe the torries. Like in the picture shown Colonists do not want to be controlled. (5)

 Contribute to the Tensions

This along with all the following acts implaced upon the colinists contributed to the increased tensions between the two countries eventually leading to the revolution. The Americans were already past the boundries set by the British in the Proclamation and didnt want to return. (3)
